Tips for team photos: Unifying your look

When it comes to team photography, your team's outfits not only reflect your professionalism but also convey the essence of your brand. Whether you have a specific brand color or not, there are numerous ways to ensure that your team looks harmonious and appealing in your photos. In this blog post, we'll explore some essential styling tips to help you and your team shine during your next photoshoot.

Incorporate Your Brand Color: If your company has a distinctive brand color, using it in your team's outfits can be a powerful way to reinforce your brand identity. For instance with the Essential Finance team above, they decided to include tones of yellow their brand colour in their outfits, paired with neutrals to ensure that the yellow was emphasized. See more of the Essential Finance blog here.

More on colour

If you don't have a specific brand color or if you want a more timeless and versatile look, neutrals are an excellent choice. Colors like navy, creams, and natural tones like greens tend to blend seamlessly and look cohesive when photographed together. Neutrals exude professionalism and sophistication, making them a safe choice for various team settings.

If you choose one colour include both darker and lighter tones. This makes sure that your team aren't blending in together when they stand next to each other!

Black: When a whole team wears black they are at risk of blending into each other. You can break this up with different tones, or include another colour so team members in black can be posed next to team members in a different tone or colour.

Avoid Large Prints and Logos: When planning your team's outfits, steer clear of large or highly contrasting prints and logos. These elements can quickly become distractions in your photos and may shift the focus away from your team's unity. Opt for solid colors or subtle patterns that enhance your team's appearance without overwhelming the frame.

Accessorize Thoughtfully: Accessories can play a significant role in styling for team photos. Encourage your team members to accessorize in a way that complements the chosen outfit theme. This might include matching ties, scarves, or coordinated jewelry. Accessories can help tie the overall look together and add a touch of individuality.

The little details make a big difference: A little grooming goes a long way! Make sure everyone is looking their best with neat hair, clean nails (check your nail polish isn't chipped!), and, if they like, makeup. I am a big advocate for professional hair and makeup having experienced the difference this can make when I did my own branding shoot. Makeup doesn't have to be heavy! If you opt for doing your own makeup ensure that it's the same colour as the skin on your neck and the skin tones on the rest of your body!

Check outfits are properly steamed, and if team shirts or uniforms are being worn check they are clean! A polished appearance doesn’t just look good; it screams professionalism and makes your team photos pop!

Practice Coordination: To ensure a cohesive look, it's a good idea to conduct a wardrobe coordination session with your team before the photoshoot. This will help everyone understand the chosen color scheme or style and make any necessary adjustments to their outfits.

Styling for team photos is an essential element of creating a strong and consistent visual identity for your brand. Whether you're incorporating your brand color or selecting neutrals, the key is to ensure that your team's outfits harmonize with one another and convey the right message. By following these styling tips, you'll be well-prepared to shine in your team photos, leaving a lasting, positive impression on your audience.
